need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of
being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether
living in plenty or in want. {13} I can do everything through him who gives

Statements such as "I can't do this, its impossible.." are typical self-defeating exaggeration. Its generally a small job that makes us feel that way. One that we could do yesterday. Here is a method to unblock yourself. Rule up five columns on a piece of paper headed the incident,the thought, the feeling caused by the thought,a better way to think about the incident, how I feel now. Eg the incident - a hopelessly messy desk, thought - I'll never get through all this, feeling caused by the thought- depression, frustration, resignation to defeat, a better way to think "If I clean this up it won't look half so bad and I can make a start on it" How I feel now - competent and in control.. |
